Molecular gastronomy with Greek food is still an unexplored territory. Kipos, a relatively new Greek place in Bandra, has waded into these uncharted waters.
Despite a rocky start (the menu was not Greek enough), they have now shaken things up and the menu reads more Greek (part molecular and part regular) than ever. We started off with spoons of fruit (mango, grape) that had undergone Spherification, which were literally a burst of flavour on the tongue.

We then went on to the Revithosoupa Chickpea Soup (Rs 160) that was an absolute delight and a palate cleanser, which set the tone for the meal to follow. The Spanakopita (Rs 220), a baked spinach pie and Annuum and Melitzana Phyllo (Rs 220), the roasted bell pepper and eggplant mixture that is rolled in phyllo sheets, were both spot on in the flavours that they were at tempt ing to highlight and melted right away with the help of the Tzatziki sauce.

The Kolokithokeftedes (Rs 220), the zucchini, feta cheese, red onion mixture that is deepfried, however, was a bit soggy and felt flat. Never mind though, the Spicy Chicken and the Tiger Prawns Saganikis (Rs 300 and Rs 750) were cooked well and feta cheese added to the mix.

Then again, the Smoked Chicken Pizza (Rs 400), touted to be another molecular delight, turned out to be a slight letdown with nothing impressive to remember. It came down to the main course and dessert, and they didn't disappoint.

The Lemon Pepper Fish Greek style (soul fish marinated in garlic lemon juice, grilled and served with butter garlic sage, Rs 500) has a kick and a tang that slowly makes way for the Greek herbs to make the home stretch.

The dessert, aptly called Destruction of Olympus (Rs 1,200), was a production in itself. The mat, the chocolate, the liquid nitrogen, the fruits, all come together in a beautiful bite of perfect combinations that you can keep mixing up; no two bites taste the same.

While Kipos is a fun idea with new flavours, it may be far from your regular hangout and instead be more of a oncein-a-while fine dining experience.
