Hyderabad: Cops foil kidnap bid

Police intercepts vehicle while on way to Karnataka

Hyderabad: The Cyberabad police foiled a kidnap bid in the city’s outskirts on Tuesday morning.

Syed Kaleem, a trader, was kidnapped from Himayathnagar by a four-member gang and was being taken to Karnataka in an SUV. Following a tip off from Hyderabad police, teams from Moinabad police chased down the vehicle and rescued the victim. A business dispute was cited as the motive behind the abduction.

Kaleem, 40, owner of GEO Group, was kidnapped from his apartment at street number 8 in Himayatnagar at around 9 am. After his wife Fatima Sara alerted the cops, the Narayanguda police sent information to all police stations in the city and Cyberabad.

The Moinabad police intercepted the Mahindra Bolero vehicle and conducted a check. “When we opened the door, we found the victim was confined under the knees of one of the accused. The abductors had two sharp knives and had threatened to harm the victim,” said a police officer from Moinabad.

Moinabad police handed over the abductors to Narayanguda police, who booked a case.

The accused are Mohammed Saleem, 37, Mohammed Javeed, 34, both merchants, Mohammed Faqruddin, 33, and Berain Kumar, 23, the last two being drivers. All of them are from Basveshnagar, Yadgiri district of Karnataka.

Narayanguda police officials said that the victim had signed a business agreement with Saleem and Javeed, and had taken Rs 50 lakh for the deal.

“The victim owns a company that ships scraps on wholesale. The two accused had paid him for the supply to their place in Karnataka. However, the victim failed to keep the agreement and did not pay back the money despite being asked repeatedly. The accused had also lodged a complaint with CCS police, Hyderabad, who had initiated legal action against the victim last year. However, the victim continued to avoid them. The duo then decided to kidnap him to get the money back,” said S. Bheem Reddy, inspector of Narayanguda police.
