KSU condemns Rahul

Says he has gone into hiding at most inopportune time

March 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - Kochi:

Members of the Kerala Students Union (KSU), the students’ wing of the Congress, on Tuesday unleashed a scathing attack against the party and its vice-president Rahul Gandhi for not showing the courage to take issues concerning the party and the people head-on.

The attack on Mr. Gandhi came in the presence of Congress leaders Hibi Eden, V.D. Satheesan, and Anwar Sadath, MLAs, and district Congress chief V.J. Paulose.

In a resolution presented at the students’ Jan Jagrata meeting organised by the KSU district committee, the union’s Maharaja’s unit strongly ‘condemned’ the fact that Mr. Gandhi had gone into “hiding” at the most inopportune time when Parliament was in its all-important budget session, which could have been constructively used by the party.

The resolution doubted the willingness of the Congress national leadership to do some course correction after its trouncing in the Delhi Assembly polls. It said Mr. Gandhi’s sudden decision to go in hiding had put the party and its ranks on the defensive, rendering them a laughing stock in public.

“It is the youth wing and young leaders who find themselves in the shameful situation of having no plausible explanation to give for the sudden disappearance of the young leader Rahul Gandhi,” the resolution said.

Welcoming A.K. Antony’s statement that discretion should be exercised while deciding candidates in elections, it urged the leadership to give more representation to the youth in the coming polls.
