EWS students may get concession in entrance, admission fees
CHANDIGARH: Panjab University is likely to offer concession in admission and entrance fee to students from economically weaker sections of society - similar to that given to SC/ST students.
The PU board of finance (BoF), in its budget estimates for the financial year 2015-16, has proposed the formation of a committee to explore the possibility of the proposed differential fee structure.
According to its proposal, the panel will explore the possibility of having a 'differential fee structure in a single course', increasing the internal revenue and suggest modalities for extending the benefit of admission/entrance fee concession to EWS students on the pattern of SC/ST students.
The PU syndicate will take up the proposal, along with other budget items proposed by the board of finance, in its meeting on March 8.
While many students have complained in the past about lack of proper information about university, the BoF has also proposed that all the schemes of scholarships, concessions, freeships, among others, available to the students of the university should be uploaded on its website with a separate link provided on the main webpage for information of aspiring students. It has also proposed that a joint mechanism with the office of the dean college development council should be put into effect to create awareness among students of affiliated colleges.
The other proposals by board of finance that will be tabled in the meeting on Sunday include allocation of funds for renovation work, new budget head for the postal department in view of the MoU for submission of fees at post offices, Rs 188 lakh for construction of sports hostels for girls, among others.
