During festivals like Ugadi, Ganesh Chaturthi, Navaratri, and jatara , Seethammapeta comes alive with celebrations.

The famous Durga Ganapathi alayam on the main road is abuzz with activity as devotees throng the temple every day.

What was a gym earlier has turned into a popular Durga Ganapathi temple. It was built in 1993 with donations collected for Ganesh Chaturthi festivities.

Apart from daily rituals like homam , deeparadhana, and abhishekam , the temple celebrates Ganesh Chaturthi for 10 days. “Priests from Tamil Nadu come down exclusively for the purpose. Each day, the deity dons a new look with special alankaram ,” says Natarajan, priest who has been living in the colony ever since the inception of the temple. Durga Ganapathi temple is gearing up for Ugadi festivities. “Apart from New Year celebrations, Ugadi is celebrated in a grand manner. Having come all the way from Puducherry, we are more than happy to settle in Seethammapeta for the past two decades,” says Mr. Natarajan.

Residents unveil grandiose plans for Sri Radha Krishnula Jatara to be held in April. “Thousands of people will participate enthusiastically in it. Cultural programmes and annadanam will form a part of the celebrations,” says Eesarapu Pydi Raju, chairman of three temples in the colony.

Although the village-turned-urban jungle has gone through several changes over the past few decades, a few tiled houses that collapsed due to cyclone Hudhud have been left unattended. “District officials have visited the place and conducted a survey and verified the documents and identity proofs. They assured us that the damage will be taken care of. However, even after four months no action has been initiated to compensate the loss,” lament the residents.
