Panel to study status of Muslims, tribal people

The Telangana government on Tuesday constituted Commissions of Inquiry to prepare a report on social, educational and economic status of Muslims and to study the relative increase of Scheduled Tribe population and their social and economic backwardness in the State.

The Commission for Muslims will be headed by a retired IAS officer G. Sudhir, and a retired lecturer M.A. Bari will be one of the two members.

The second member will be appointed subsequently.

To formulate policies

A government order said information about the status of Muslims was required to enable the government to formulate policies for their uplift to bring them on par with other sections of society.

Another retired IAS officer S. Chellappa will be the chairman of the Commission of Inquiry for STs which will also go into the representations of Valmiki Boya and Khaithi Lambada communities for inclusion among STs.

Members

A retired IPS officer K. Jagannatha Rao and retired Additional Commissioner of Labour H.K. Nagu will be members, according to government orders issued in the evening.

The terms of reference of the commission for Muslims include preparation of report on their income and educational levels and finding out their percentage in government and private employment.

Their access to bank credit and allied services provided by the government as compared to other communities should also be found out.
