Bomet girl who scored 187 marks in primary exams excels in KCSE

BOMET: There was jubilation yesterday at Raia village in Bomet County after it emerged that 16-year-old Jedida Cherono was among those who had performed well in last year's Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).

Cherono, who had managed a paltry 187 out of 500 marks in the 2010 KCPE scored a B (minus) in KCSE.

Cherono, a former student of Siwot Secondary School, thanked her mother whom she described as one of the people who made her excel.

"I am very happy because my mother, teachers and my colleagues helped me a lot," she said joyfully.

She said despite faring poorly in KCPE, she was optimistic about KCSE.

"After getting the little marks that I did in KCPE, I resolved I was not going to give up," she added.

She said she would have scored more had she not been frequently sent home for school fees. "My mother struggled a lot to ensure that I stayed in school. She did manual jobs which hardly catered for my school fees and those of my other six siblings," said Cherono.

She also thanked her teachers for "adding real value on me".
