Ensure safety of students, or face action: DCP to city schools

The school authorities were told to install CCTV cameras which cover the entire school, especially all the floors, playgrounds and sports facilities. The DCP said that the CCTV cameras must cover all critical areas of the school premises. Besides, floor vigilance officers must be appointed by the school authorities so that they could keep a close watch on the activities of the students.

The schools were asked to issue identity cards to all the parents who come to pick and drop their children. He said that in case parents fail to reach, then an SMS should be sent to the registered guardian.

The DCP also asked the school authorities to start complaint cards through which the students were able to share their problems and those cards should be kept confidential to make students comfortable. He added that schools should also lay stress on proper hearing of sexual abuse allegations of a student.

He added that schools must ensure that buses in which students travel were well-maintained and all their documents were complete. If any bus was found violating norms then action would be taken against the school authorities as well as the contractor/driver.

ACP (traffic) Agnihotri said that schools must check underage driving. The school authorities were asked to see that no school student was allowed to drive a two-wheeler or a four-wheeler without a driving licence.

“Underage driving leads to fatal accidents. But these days it has become a prestige issue for some parents who do not hesitate to hand over vehicles to their children who have no licence and proper training,” she said.
