Actor Hiten Tejwani will be seen as Niranjan Chaturvedi, a barrister, in the new show Gangaa, which is based on the life of a child widow. And to prepare for this role, Hiten had to go to the sessions court in Benares to observe the lawyers and learn their body language. He says, âIt is not difficult for an actor to play a lawyer. But since the show is based in Benares, I had to study the way lawyers take up cases and fight in that city.
If I had not gone there, my personality and dialect would show me to be more like a Mumbai-based lawyer and the character would not have been able to connect with the audiences. It was necessary to be in touch with the characterâs upbringing.â Hiten, who has played more positive roles in his career, says, âPeople keep asking me why I accept positive roles, but I think it has more to do with the role than anything else. Like in the case of this show, I accepted the role because it was all about standing by your values. â

Gangaa, is the latest addition to child actors playing prominent roles in TV shows. How did Hiten connect with her? âWhen she was chosen to play the character, I thought she had a hard task ahead as the scenes require more work. But those days are gone now. Child actors today are brilliant. We donât have to teach them anything, they work like professionals.â
