Congress targets MP CM for sharing stage with PMT scam accused

Kirar and his son were named as accused in an FIR filed in Gwalior in July last year for their alleged involvement in pre-medical test racket.

An accused in a pre-medical test (PMT) racket in Gwalior, similar to the MPPEB scam, shared stage with Shivraj Singh Chouhan at a community function in Raisen, prompting the opposition Congress to accuse the Chief Minister of protecting the guilty.

Gulab Singh Kirar, who is a member of Backward Classes and Minority Welfare Department, was the chief guest of the function held at Raisen on Monday. Kirar and his son were named as accused in an FIR filed in Gwalior in July last year for their alleged involvement in getting candidates illegally clear entrance examination to post-graduate courses in medicine.

“He is the CM and it was a community function. I don’t become guilty just because there’s an FIR against me. I have lived an honest life. I should be punished if evidence is found against me,” Kirar told The Indian Express.

“If the allegation that I could get candidates clear the medical examination is true why would I have sent my son to do his graduation to a faraway medical college in Karnataka?,” asked the 71-year-old, who enjoys the status of minister of state in the state.
Congress spokesman K K Mishra alleged that by sharing stage with an accused, the CM has proved that the racket happened on his watch and that he was protecting the big fish like Kirar. Kirar said he had volunteered in the probe on his own and promised all cooperation till the probe was on.
