March 3, 2015

•Boston-based Harpoon Brewery is set to take on distribution of San Francisco’s Speakeasy Ales & Lagers this month, according to news reports. The brewer’s Harpoon Distributing Company offshoot will initially launch Speakeasy’s portfolio into the greater Boston area on-premise, with off-premise retail expansion to follow. Established in 1997, Speakeasy Ales & Lagers’ core stable includes its Big Daddy IPA, Prohibition Ale, Metropolis Lager, Scarlett Red Rye and Tallulah Extra Pale Ale, among others. In addition to Boston, Speakeasy has a U.S. footprint spanning roughly 11 states.

•Houston, Texas’ Saint Arnold Brewing is releasing two of its top-selling craft beers in cans throughout its distribution footprint. Year-round offerings Fancy Lawnmower Beer and Santo will be available in cans, as well as next month’s seasonal Summer Pils, the first Saint Arnold seasonal offering sold in cans. The brewery recently completed installation of a canning line that includes a 20-head filler and is capable of packaging up to 160 cans per minute. For 2014, Saint Arnold reported a 14% production increase to just over 66,500 barrels. The company offers eight year-round beers and five seasonals, which it says were largely responsible for driving sales growth last year.
