BHOPAL: Teams of Sarojini Naidu Girls PG College (Nutan College) and Rajiv Gandhi Proudhyogiki Vishwavidyalaya won first prizes in their respective categories at the national tech expo 'Savishkar' concluded at Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT) on Saturday.
Sarojini team comprising final year B Sc students was awarded first prize in agricultural sciences category in which they demonstrated a model for improving farming.
"We have demonstrated bio-conservation process which would help farmers in increasing productivity and also to keep fertility of the land," said team member and final year BSc student Kavita Mehra. Ayesha Khan and Tooba Khan were the others members of the team.
RGPV team comprised four students of dual degree programme (computer science engineering branch) awarded first prize for their model on Wi-Fi from dustbin in environmental engineering category.
Group member Shubham Rathi said, "We have used infrared sensors to detect garbage. As soon as it detects garbage it allows the flow of current in integrated chip leading the buzzer to go off. After that other sensors will do the verification of the garbage and accordingly provide data relating to its weight and capacity in the bin."
He said, "To provide Wi-Fi service we have used cloud Wi-Fi as it covers a very large area so if a user throws garbage at one end can still use our free Wi-Fi from other end. This model will encourage people to use dustbins instead of littering on streets." Other members of the team were Prabhat Kumar, Akshat Gupta and Satyam Sagar.
Three-day meet witnessed over 100 models designed by students of city-based colleges and parts of the country. In all, students were awarded in different 11 categories.
