JD(U) targets PM Modi over controversial remarks by BJP, VHP leaders

NEW DELHI: JD-U today targetted Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Rajya Sabha over controversial remarks by some leaders of BJP and VHP questioning whether he is "complicit" in all this or his writ does not run.

Referring to recent controversial remarks of Subramanian Swamy, Sadhvi Prachi, Praveen Togadia and some others, JD-U member Pawan Varma asked the BJP to stop making a distinction between itself and the associated organizations.

He said that at a 'Virat Hindu Sammelan' of VHP, a remark was made about continuance of the 'ghar wapsi' programme.

He alleged that a "fear psychosis" is sought to be created by asking muslims and christians to recognise that their ancestors were hindus.

In this context, Varma cited a comment made by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy said "the person should be arrested".

At a VHP programme in Dehradun on Sunday, its leader Sadhvi Prachi, known for making controversial remarks, had called for a boycott of films starring Bollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan and asked right-wing Hindu outfits to tear posters of their films and make a bonfire of them.

Taking umbrage of these remarks, Varma asked, "Does the writ of the Prime Minister not run even on the leaders belonging to his own party or the Prime Minister himself is complicit?"

The JD-U leader said Modi has not made a single remark condemning these statements.

Such statements were made by leaders of VHP and BJP this Sunday, despite assertion by Prime Minister at a Catholic church function that all religions have equal right, he said.

"I also want to tell the BJP that it should stop making this distinction that it is different from these other organisations," Varma said.

Members from most of opposition parties including Congress, Left and SP assoicated with his remarks.
