Vizag set to gain from Railway Budget

February 26, 2015 03:37 pm | Updated November 28, 2021 07:39 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Railway passengers would soon be able to access WiFi at Visakhapatnam Railway Station as part of the proposal of the Railways to provide wifi facility at all B Category stations.

The proposal, among many in the Railway Budget 2015-16 announced by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Thursday, is generic and does not list out individual stations.

Satellite stations – Anakapalle, Duvvada, Simhachalam and Pendurthy – are likely to be developed under the Railway Budget proposal to improve satellite stations.

Better waiting rooms and more toilet facilities at the station would mean that platform No. 8 of the station would also get a toilet facility. The number of escalators and lifts at the station would be increased to cover all platforms within a reasonable period of time.

The Budget proposal for repairs and revamp of railway quarters holds out hope for railway employees who saw many of their quarters damaged by Cyclone Hudhud.

Policy change in private sidings would help development of the city as a logistics hub with speedier evacuation from the sea port.
