Blues trade Ian Cole to Penguins for Robert Bortuzzo, 2016 draft pick

The St. Louis Blues have traded defenseman Ian Cole to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for defenseman Robert Bortuzzo and a seventh-round pick in the 2016 draft, the teams announced Monday.

The St. Louis Blues have traded defenseman Ian Cole to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for defenseman Robert Bortuzzo and a seventh-round pick in the 2016 draft, the teams announced Monday

Bortuzzo, who turns 26 later this month, has played in 38 games this season. He has missed time due to injury and illness and was also a healthy scratch on a number of occasions. He averaged 15:28 of ice time and had a minus-six rating.

Cole, 26, has played in 54 of the Blues' 63 games this season, averaging 15:03 on the ice. He has nine points and a plus-16 rating.

Both players will be restricted free agents after this season.

The Blues also acquired defenseman Zbynek Michalekin a trade with the Arizona Coyotes earlier Monday. 

The Penguins are currently third in the Metropolitan Division and the Blues are second in the Central.
