Minister's new marine protection measures rile industry

Fishermen and their supporters rally in front of the presidential palace in Jakarta on Thursday to protest against new regulations.

JAKARTA -- New ministerial decrees aimed at protecting fishery stocks and a lack of industry consultation led to a rare backlash against the new government of President Joko Widodo last week.

"Susi is an enemy of people," shouted fishermen and their supporters, who assembled in front of the Ministry of Maritime and Fisheries Affairs and the presidential palace on Thursday. "The minister should resign!" they chanted.
