VISAKHAPATNAM: Thousands of advocates from the north coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh abstained from duties on Monday to protest the physical assault on a judge from the Andhra region by Telangana advocates at the Ranga Reddy district courts recently. Telangana lawyers had allegedly hurled eggs and physically abused the judge on Friday.
The advocates closed the main gate of the district court complex here and raised slogans against the attack for nearly two hours.
Only emergency cases were taken up by the courts but orders were not issued in any case, sources said.
Condemning the act, Visakhapatnam Bar Association president J Prudhviraj said the Telangana government would face retaliation from the advocates of Andhra Pradesh if the attacks continued. He said if Telangana advocates continued with their aggressive stance, the AP advocates would continue to strike work till the AP High Court was set up in the Andhra region.
VBA vice-president B Uma Sankar said a meeting of the advocates' JAC would be held on March 8 at Guntur to decide on the future course of action on the agitation for the high court and other issues.
