Police arrested K. Vijayalakshmi (40) of Andhra Pradesh and her son-in-law Prithviraj (32) at a lodge near Peelamedu on Sunday on charges of organising prostitution.
Police sources said that three women, including two college students, were rescued from them and sent to a home for rehabilitation.
Police said that Vijayalakshmi earlier worked in a HIV counselling unit attached to a government hospital before she allegedly started organising prostitution.
The police said that on Sunday they received a tip off that a gang was organising the illegal activity in the lodge.
The police seized Rs. 1.01 lakh, a mobile phone and a four-wheeler from them. Vijayalakshmi and Prithviraj were booked under sections 4 (Punishment for living on the earnings of prostitution) and 5 (Procuring, inducing or taking person for the sake of prostitution) of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, produced in court and lodge in prison during the late hours of Sunday.

The body of a middle-aged man was found amid bushes in a piece of barren land near the Avinashi Road and Peelamedu on Monday.
The body was noticed by a construction worker who had gone there and informed the police.
Peelamedu police conducted preliminary investigations and registered the case under section 174 (unnatural death) of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
The body was taken to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for post-mortem.
Meanwhile, the police found two SIM cards near the body and called the phone numbers in it.
The persons who answered the call said that the number from which the police called belonged to Narayanan (55) of Kannur, Kerala, who reportedly went missing from Friday.
The police said that they are waiting for Narayanan’s relatives to identify the body.
