Twenty-one government schools in Mysuru district have been declared ‘eco-friendly’ and will be given ‘Parisara Mitra’ awards for keeping their premises pollution free.

While a government school in K.R. Nagar had been adjudged ‘Parisara Shale’, 10 schools each bagged ‘Hasiru Shale’ and ‘Haladi Shale’ titles.

The awards had been instituted by the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) and will be presented at a function in Rotary School on K.R.S. Road on Tuesday at 2 p.m.

The KSPCB has been presenting the ‘Parisara Mitra’ awards for the past three years.

Of the 30 schools short-listed for the awards under the ‘Parisara Mitra’ programme, which aims to develop interest in the environment among students at an early age, 21 were selected.

The ‘Parisara Shale’ award carries a purse of Rs. 20,000 and a trophy, and the ‘Hasiru Shale’ and ‘Haladi Shale’ awards carry purses of Rs. 2,000 and Rs. 1,000 respectively with trophies.
