Councillors criticise lethargic functioning of administration

March 03, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - Tirupur:

Three councillors of Samalapuram Town Panchayat, K. S Thiruganasambandan (Congress), A. Prabhu (DMDK) and Shantagiri (DMK), have sent a joint representation to the State Government alleging that the town panchayat administration was lethargic in the execution of water supply and sanitation projects.

Mr. Thirugananasambandan said that the town panchayat did not have a permanent executive officer for the past two years and the EO of another Town Panchayat was in charge for the period. “The grievances raised by the elected representatives were not getting fully redressed due to official apathy in the panchayat. Issues like delay in giving water connections to houses in certain wards are not addressed till now,” he alleged.

They also pointed out that mosquito control measures were far from satisfactory in the panchayat and spreading of viral fevers have become a concern.
