Minister for Major Irrigation Devineni Umamaheswara Rao on Monday asserted that the State government had attached great importance to the completion of the Ananta Venkata Reddy Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (AVRHNSS) project at the earliest.

Mr. Rao, who is on a one-day tour of the district to check the progress being made on the canals pertaining to the second stage of the project, along with IT Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy told the media that that the government intended to divert water from the Krishna basin to Rayalaseema after the completion of Pattiseema project.

“Once the Pattiseema LI Project is completed, water from Godavari basin can be used to cater to the needs of the Krishna delta while the water thus saved in the Krishna basin will be given to Rayalaseema through HNSS,” said Mr Umamaheswara Rao .

He said that the government had two priorities - Construction of the State capital and completion of the Polavaram project. “Polavaram project shall be completed under any circumstances by June 2018,” he said, even as he accused the previous Congress government of 'not acting' on getting the permissions needed for the project.

Accusing the opposition parties of ‘not being cooperative’ to the government in tackling the gamut of problems that State was facing, he urged them not to politicise every issue.

Meanwhile, Hindupur TDP MLA and actor Nandamuri Balakrishna accusing the BJP-led government of showing ‘disrespect to the people of AP. “The people believed in the TDP-BJP combine. Now the Centre has fooled people by completely disregarding the valid concerns of AP,” he told the media, while accompanying Mr. Umamaheswara Rao during his tour to HNSS project canals.

“The State has no capital and has a huge revenue deficit. After promising to deliver on all these fronts, the NDA has given alms to complete the Polavaram project. How can the project be completed with Rs 100 crores?,”Mr Balakrishna asked.“We (AP people) have been treated shabbily and there is a sense of injury and pain at the way we have been deceived. Did not the Centre know it had financial difficulties when showering promises. A promise made will have to be kept,” he said.
