Love in Tokyo for Ranbir and Deepika
The Japanese city is the venue for their upcoming film's climax.

After the picturesque town of Corsica in the South of France, former lovebirds Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone are now all set to take their reel life romance to Tokyo.

The Japanese capital, which was immortalised on screen in the 1966 release, Love in Tokyo, starring Joy Mukherjee and Asha Parekh. The ‘60s musical is still remembered for the evergreen chartbuster, Sayonara Sayonara, which had a coy Asha Parekh in a kimono being serenaded by Joy.

Now Tokyo is the final destination of Imtiaz Ali’s Tamasha which has also been shot in France and Delhi.

“The film unspools like a travelogue and Imtiaz wanted the colour palette of his canvas to be a beautiful contrast. All three of the film’s locales are different from each other. Tokyo has been locked as the venue for the film’s climax,” said the source close to the production.

After the Tokyo schedule, a crucial scene will remain to be filmed. “They want to shoot in an old movie theatre. Currently, Imtiaz is on a hunt for a convincing location. But if that doesn’t find a cinema that meets his requirements, a set will be erected in Mumbai,” added the source.

The romantic drama, which has music by AR Rahman, is the story of two foot-loose youngsters on a journey of self-discovery who are brought together by their love of the French comic series, Asterix.

The rumour mill is buzzing that Tamasha, which is looking to a Christmas release this year, will get pushed to the first quarter of 2016. The reason being Ranbir’s Jagga Jasoos, directed by Anurag Basu and co-starring his lady love Katrina Kaif, which opens in November. Reportedly Ranbir doesn’t want two films releasing in quick succession. When quizzed on the subject producer Sajid Nadiadwala told Mirror firmly that Tamasha is on course. “It will release this year,” he stated.
