BOKARO: The district administration has prepared a detailed plan to transform Tenughat Dam as a tourist hub of state and sent a proposal to tourist secretary in this regard.
To make the plan a reality, Central Coalfield Limited (CCL) and Indian Explosive Limited (IEL), have assured administration of funding the project under its corporate social responsibility (CSR). Restaurant on house boat, boating expedition, toy train, botanical garden, fish house, deer park are some of the delights the administration is going to set up to woo the tourists.

The picturesque Tenughat dam is situated across the Damodar river in Gomia Block. Deputy commissioner Uma Shankar Singh said that Tenughat dam, situated 35 km from district headquarters, is being developed into a tourist hub for the state.
A special development plan is prepared to develop the dam so that it can attract domestic and international visitors.
“The dam has all the potential to be developed as a tourist spot of Jharkhand. We have formed Tenughat Toursim Development Committee, which comprises 25 members of CCL, DVC, ONGC, TISCO, MP, MLA, SDM and others, who will work for development of the dam,” said the DC.
DC also said that they have planned to introduce motor boats and are screening the possibilities to run it between Tenughat Dam and Chinmastika Temple located on the bank of Damodar river in Ramgarh. “It will be a hit among residents as lakhs of devotees visit Chinmastika Temple every year.”

Besides, there are 5 acres of land of tourism department at Tenughat which can be used for making parks, swings, fish house, restaurants, toy trains and others recreational facilities which will be a major attraction of the region.
“Like Dal Lake of Kashmir, we plan to come up with a restaurant on houseboats there,” said DC.
The administration has also planned to introduce water cruise, water sports like para-sailing, boating on the dam. Development of the area will not only fetch revenue for the state but also generate employment opportunities for local residents. “We will encourage local residents to put their counters at the dam to promote their art, culture and handicrafts. It will add attraction for the tourists, said DC. Singh said the administration has included development of Luggu Buru Ghantavadi, a holy place of Santhal tribe, in the proposal sent to the state tourism department.
