The third day of the inter-faculty youth festival of Banaras Hindu University (BHU), ‘Spandan-2015’ began with a number of theatre, dance, music, fine arts and literary events.

VARANASI: The third day of the inter-faculty youth festival of Banaras Hindu University (BHU), ‘Spandan-2015’ began with a number of theatre, dance, music, fine arts and literary events.
Several competitions like mime, expression and creative dance held at Amphitheatre Ground attracted a huge audience from the varsity where around 22 teams participated. The classical instrumental music, comprising percussion tabla and non-percussion sitar also enthralled the audience.

The students of different faculties participated in poster making, cartooning, poetry recitation and elocution events. As many as 19 participants of different faculties participated in poster-making competition based on themes like female foeticide, environment and clean India. The students of 15 faculties and affiliated colleges of BHU participated in ‘cartooning’ on the theme ‘Aaj Ka Media’ held at Exhibition Hall of faculty of visual arts on Sunday.
The main attraction of the day was short play staged at Swatantrata Bhawan. As many as 12 teams of faculties of commerce, arts, education, agriculture, social sciences, ayurveda, law, Vasant Kanya Mahavidyalaya, SVDV, Rajiv Gandhi South Campus (Mirzapur) and Indian Institute of Technology participated in the event.
TOI caught up with students of faculty of law, Pratul and Sajan said, “Our act is based on the play ‘Nemisis’ and theme is Death Comedy. Here, we are enacting the story of a script writer who, despite of his hard work does not get the due recognition.” Another student, Manji of faculty of agriculture said, “The team through the play will portray the burning issue of women harassment, female foeticide and their killing.”
It may be noted that the youth festival was formally inaugurated by renowned Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor at Amphitheatre pandal on Saturday. Earlier, a colourful procession was taken out by the students.
Other fine art events like sketching, rangoli, mehendi along with dance programmes comprising choreography, mimicry, folk dance, tribal dance, vocal and final rounds of quiz competition will be held in the following days of the festival. The festival will conclude on March 3.
