The 73rd International Film Festival, organised by the Rasmi Film Society, concluded here with the screening of the popular Saudi Arabian film ‘Wadjda’ on Sunday night.
An open forum conducted on the final day of the two-day film festival discussed at length the future of film societies in the country.
Moderator S. Gopu said like libraries, space should be made for screening of films also. V. Mohanakrishnan, representing the Kani Film Society, Changaramkulam, said public space was disappearing from the cultural scenario.
V.P. Unnikrishnan of the Jwala Film Society underscored the necessity of recapturing the film viewers. Mammad M. representing the Montage Film Society, Manjeri, said film societies should look to the future and adopt measures meant for survival. P.T. Arun Kumar of the Valluvanad Film Society said the politics of collectiveness should be re introduced.
Poet Manambur Rajanbabu, Anil K. Karuppan, S. Sanjay, Asha Kalluvalappil, Mohammed Shareef Kappu, E.K. Jayakrishnan, E. Babu. V. Sajan and Shankaranarayanan addressed the open forum.
V. Mohanakrishnan, G.K. Rammohan, and S. Sanjay presented their poems with films as their theme.
Movies that won appreciation at international film festivals were screened at the festival.
