Shimla: Wintry conditions revived in most parts of Himachal as tribal areas and other higher hills had another spell of heavy snowfall while mid and lower hills were lashed by intermittent heavy rains, causing sharp fall in mercury.
Sky remained heavily overcast and icy winds accompanied by rains and snow and maximum day temperature dropped by five to eight degrees.
High altitude tribal areas, Rohtang, Chansel, Kunzaam and Saach passes and Dhauladhar and Churdhar ranges in Kangra and Sirmaur experienced heavy intermittent snowfall.
Kalpa and Keylong in Kinnaur and Lahaul and Spiti districts recorded 30 cm and 35 cm of snow while Rohtang Pass, Mari, Koksar and Churdhar ranges received 45 cm to 55 cm of snow till evening while adjoing valleys got moderate snowfall.
The high altitude tribal areas were cut off from rest of the state by road as uncertainty hanged over the Himachal School Board examinations starting from March 3 as question papers have not reached snowbound areas.
All schools in Lahaul valley, which were closed for five days, would open tomorrow but avalanche threat loomed large over the valley and people have been advised to stay indoors.
Nahaan and Manali recorded 15 mm and 13 mm of rains, followed by Kasauli 13 mm, Majholi 12 mm, Sundernagar and Solan 9 mm, Shimla, Una and Kangra, 8 mm.
High velocity winds accompanied by sharp showers lashed Shimla, Solan, Mandi, Kullu and several other places in mid and lower hills and sky remained heavily overcast, causing sharp fall of five to eight degrees in day temperatures.
Una recorded a maximum temperature of 18.6 degrees Celsius against yesterday's 25.2 while Nahan recorded a high of 17.2, Sundernagar 15.4, Dharamsala?15.2, Solan 14, Bhunter 13, Shimla 8.3, Manali 8.6 degree and Kalpa 0.4 degrees Celsius.
The local MeT office has predicted heavy to very heavy rains and thunder storm at isolated places in lower hills, rains or snow in mid hills and heavy snowfall in higher hills tomorrow and rains and snow in the up to March 7.
