MOSCOW (Sputnik) — As many as 1,103 Iraqis were killed in acts of terrorism and violence in February, with another 2,280 wounded, the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) said in a statement Sunday.

Civilian casualties comprised 611 of the total number, including 30 members of civilian police.

According to the UNAMI, the numbers of those dead and wounded represent the absolute minimum of causalities, as the mission was hindered in verifying incidents in the areas of conflict, particularly with the Islamic State militant group.

"Daily terrorist attacks perpetrated by ISIL continue to deliberately target all Iraqis. There are also concerning reports of a number of revenge killings by armed groups in areas recently liberated from ISIL," Nickolay Mladenov, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Iraq, said, as quoted by the UNAMI.

In January, fighting in Iraq killed over 1,375 Iraqis and wounded another 2,240. The capital Baghdad was the worst affected region of the country in the first two months of 2015.

Islamic State has occupied vast territories of Iraq and neighboring Syria, including Iraq's second largest city of Mosul. A US-led coalition of over 60 nations has been conducting airstrikes against the militants since last year.
