Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his family will move into his official residence located in North Delhi’s Civil Lines during the auspicious Navratri in March, sources said.
Much-debated during his 49-day tenure as the Delhi CM in 2013, the subject of Mr. Kejriwal’s residence had been on the back-burner since he began his second stint in the office this time.
It remained high on the priority list of the Delhi Government ever since he was sworn in on February 14. The said government bungalow located at 6, Flagstaff Road, has four bedrooms, a guest room, two rooms for office and a lawn to accommodate between 250 and 300 people, according to the source.
“His family visited it earlier this week and spent upwards of an hour in its vicinity. It was finalised only after his family conveyed to him that it was in complete accordance with his wishes of being able to operate an office and hold public meetings in the lawns as and when required,” the source said.
The source added that the family had chosen the beginning of the “Chaitra Navratri” from March 21 to relocate.
After taking oath as the CM, Mr. Kejriwal had clarified that he would need a bigger house to ensure that those visiting him to relate their troubles could be accommodated comfortably.
This was a far cry from his bitter replies to the media whenever the latter pointed out that he had gone back on his promise of living a common man’s life – one of his most prominent promises mentioned on a widely-circulated affidavit before when he contested elections in 2013.
A source attributed the choice of location to Mr. Kejriwal’s insistence on residing close to his Cabinet.
