The local commissioners appointed by the National Green Tribunal visited Karol Bagh market on Saturday only to find various irregularities leading to congestion and chaos.

Karol Bagh, like Lajpat Nagar, is an area pointed out by NGT for starting decongestion to ease traffic and vehicular pollution.

The local commissioners Charanjeet Singh, Vikrant Kaushik and Mithilesh Kumar were accompanied by traffic police personnel and representatives of the market associations.

The entire market was covered on foot by the team which found vendors squatting on the footpath, forcing people to walk amid traffic.

Vendors without tehbazari licence were also carrying on their work. The police prosecuted several offenders for wrong parking.

Meanwhile, a meeting took place between DCP (Traffic), the counsel for Delhi Government and representatives of the market associations of Karol Bagh on the issue of decongesting the area and parking.

During the meeting, various proposals were considered to answer the problem of parking in the busy Karol Bagh area. The proposal for single lane parking space was also considered.

The NGT had appointed local commissioners for visiting Lajpat Nagar and Karol Bagh to see the ground reality and apprise the court about the same.
