Mayor Shivu Hiremath announced a hike in property tax by 15 per cent on buildings and by 25 per cent on open land at the general body meeting of the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) here on Saturday.
Additional revenue
The HDMC officials had proposed a 25 per cent hike in taxes on residential, non-residential and non-commercial buildings and a 30 per cent hike on commercial buildings. Officials said the HDMC was expecting an additional revenue of Rs. 67.64 crore.
The members, however, opposed the proposal.
While Veeranna Savadi of the Bharatiya Janata Party suggested a 15 per cent hike for buildings and 30 per cent hike for open land,
Leader of the Opposition Yasin Haveripeth of the Congress suggested a 15 per cent hike for buildings. The meeting approved the proposal with amendments.
Since the council has also approved implementing the hikes effected during 2009-10 and during 2012-13 with retrospective effect from 2008-09 and 2011-12 respectively, the residents will have to cough up more for paying the difference amount.
Advertisement rates
The council also approved revised rates for advertisement hoardings.
The new annual rates are Rs. 56 per sq m, Rs. 89 for 1- 2.5 sq m and Rs. 89 for each of the 2.5 sq m above this size for the non-electrified hoardings.
The revised prices for electrified hoardings are, Rs. 84 for 0.2 sq m, and Rs. 167 for hoardings measuring above this size.
For open land it will go up by 25 per cent
