Nine men hack HSC student to death
PUNE: A class 12 student on his way to the exam centre on a motorcycle was hacked to death by eight to nine men near the Mahatma Gandhi Vidyalaya in Uruli Kanchan, about 30 km from the city, on Saturday morning.
The Pune rural police said the suspects had a grudge against 18-year-old Chaitanya Gawli because of his relationship with a girl.
Gawli started from his house in Chandanwadi in Daund and picked his friend Sachin Kanchan (21), who also was appearing for the exam, from Uruli Kanchan.

The suspects blocked Gawli’s way between the Mahatma Gandhi Vidyalaya and B G Shirke school and attacked him with sharp weapons. Kanchan pleaded with them to spare Gawli but they did not stop. Later they fled towards Ashtapur village in Lonikand, said the police. The incident happened in full public view around 9.30am, but no one came forward to help. Gawli was rushed to Shivam hospital, but he was proclaimed dead by doctors on arrival.
Inspector Abhiman Pawar of the Loni Kalbhor police station said, “Some people have been taken into custody on suspicion. We have teamed up with officials of the local crime branch of rural police to launch a hunt for tracing the assailants.”
Kanchan has named nine people in his complaint, but Pawar refused to give details. Gawli’s father runs a photo studio in Chandanwadi.
Assistant inspector Ranjitsingh Pardeshi said the
murder as well planned. “The killers were waiting on their motorcycles by the road side near Shirke school. They intercepted Gawli’s way by blocking the road. Gawli was attacked before he could react,” he said.
The attackers fled soon after with Gawli’s motorcycle. A naka bandi was conducted across the district immediately, but the attackers could not be arrested till this report was filed. “We are working on some clues and they will be arrested soon,” Pardeshi added.
Rahul Kalbhor, managing director of Shivam hospital near Loni toll naka, said Gawli died due to multiple injuries in his stomach and chest. The attackers were booked under sections of the IPC and the Arms Act.
