VADODARA: Five people were arrested for stabbing a man to death on Thursday night. Hirav Patel, Piyush Patel, Navin Patel, Vijay Amin and Kumar Giri were arrested on Friday for the alleged murder of Rajesh Kumar Yadav on Jetalpur Road.
Keyur Patel in his complaint at Gorwa police station told police that he was having an affair with Ankita Patel, wife of Hirav Patel.
Keyur and Ankita interacted over a social media website and later grew closer as they went to the same gymnasium.
Keyur was called to Ankita's house on February 22 to settle the matter. Keyur told the police that Hirav, his father Navin Patel and elder brother Piyush Patel later beat him up.
On Thursday, Keyur and his cousin Himanshu Patel along with their driver Rajesh Kumar Yadav met Hirav, Piyush, Navin, Amin and Giri on Jetalpur road.
The three, who came to settle the matter, later got into a heated argument with the other party. Following the argument one of the persons from the other group used a sharp-edged weapon to attack Keyur. However, Keyur escaped the attempt but his driver suffered a stab wound to which he later succumbed. The incident was initially reported as an accidental death.
"Himanshu tried to mislead the investigations by informing the police that Yadav tripped and fell on the rod and died. It was thorough interrogation of the people present at the spot that we could ascertain the exact cause of the death," said Gorwa police inspector M M Puwar.
Puwar added that all the five have been booked under sections 302, 325 and 323 of the Indian Penal Code.
Police said Yadav lost his life after Keyur dodged the murder attempt on him. Yadav was rushed to Bhailal Amin Hospital but he died during the treatment.
