RAJKOT: The Saurashtra University (SU)’s Physics Department will host the a national level three program sponsored by Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India next week. The three week theme based program is sponsored by Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) of DST and it is known is DST-SERB School.
The program in condensed Matter Physics will be held at SU between March 2 and March 21.

“This is for the first time, any university based in Gujarat has received a chance to host the DST sponsored program. The focus area of the school will be on the studies on Ion Interaction Matter. There will be total 40 participants from across the country and host state can sent three participant and rest of the participants will come from various parts of the country’’ said Professor N A Shah, one of the Course Director, DST-SERB School.
SERB is a statutory body established through an Act of Parliament and it is supporting basic research in emerging areas of Science and engineering are the primary and distinctive mandate of the Board.
“The primary goal of this program is to create awareness among young scientists and researchers about the importance of ion irradiation effects in in modifying the material properties and their usefulness in tailoring new exotic nanostructures and Nano patterns. During the three week program, it will cover the basics and fundamentals of the ion interaction with matter, theoretical understanding and techniques of ion irradiation and availability of ion irradiation facilities in India’’ said Professor D G Kuberkar, Course Director.
“This is a various prestigious program for researchers and we have invited applications from researchers and PhD students for participation. Lectures by subject experts will be supplemented by tutorials, experiments and students’ seminars’’ Kuberkar added.
