GURGAON: A day after the chief medical officer (CMO), Pushpa Bishnoi, ordered a probe into the death of a pregnant woman in the Civil Hospital on Tuesday, one more woman died on Thursday.
After a caesarean delivery in the maternity ward, 26-year-old Anchala complained of breathlessness. She lost her life soon after. “When she complained of breathlessness, the doctor was immediately called.
However, she (doctor) came only after 10 minutes. Though the doctor was in the hospital at that time, Anchala couldn’t get immediate treatment and passed away,” alleged a family member, who didn’t wish to be named. Anchala was the second patient to die in the maternity ward this week.
On Tuesday, a woman, after giving birth to her fourth child, died while she was being taken to Safdarjung Hospital. Her husband alleged, “The doctors in the hospital couldn’t control her bleeding. Even though the hospital has a blood bank, she was not given blood in time. When her condition deteriorated, she was referred to a hospital in Delhi and she lost her life in the ambulance.”
A probe was initiated by the CMO after the husband brought it to the notice of the district health authorities. “Doctors in the hospital made all possible efforts to save the mothers. Their death took place in the daytime when all doctors were available in the hospital. There has been no negligence in any case. Both deaths were sudden,” Dr Asrudin, principal medical officer (PMO) told TOI.
Several attempts by TOI to reach CMO Bishnoi on the phone and through text messages went in vain as there was no response.
