President Mugabe has extended the service of the State Procurement Board members until the end of this year following its expiry on September 30 last year.

The board members are executive chairman Mr Charles Kuwaza, vice chairperson Ms Florence Ziumbe, Mr Stephen Chifunyise, Ambassador Buzawani Mothobi, Mr William Kurebgaseka, Mr Tinaye Chigudu and Mr Simon Pazvakavambwa.

“It is hereby notified that the President has in terms of section 6(1) of the Procurement Act (chapter 22:14) approved the extension of service of the State Procurement Board members until December 31, 2015,” read a notice in the Government Gazette of February 23.

“Approval has been granted for an additional member to the board, Mrs Spiwe Nyamatore until December 31, 2015.”

The extension of the term comes as business leaders and corporate governance experts have been calling for the complete overhaul of the country’s sole procurement body for failing to publish its accounts, among other alleged irregularities.

Concerns were raised on how the board bungled on some tenders.

Most of the board members have been with the SPB since 2002.
