Neyveli Lignite Corporation Ltd (NLC) has adopted frugal engineering concepts to raise productivity in mines and thermal units as well as strike an ecological balance between land reclamation and afforestation measures, according to B.Surender Mohan, NLC Chairman and Managing Director.
Addressing the National Productivity Week 2015 celebrations held recently at the NLC, which has taken up the concept of "Make in India: Zero Defect, Zero Effect", Mr. Mohan said frugal engineering principles were also introduced in NLC township for energy conservation, by inducting capacitor banks for the improvement of power factor in the bore well water pump houses and in mines, variable voltage and variable frequency (VVVF) motor drives for conveyor systems.
He noted that technology, mechanisation and human resource play a major role in improving the productivity of an organisation.
In his key-note address, Dr.Srinivasan Sundarrajan, Director/NIT, Tiruchi, delivered the key note address on how research and analysis can bring productivity.
The NLC undertook at site training programmes across all industrial and service units and offices involving external faculties Aravindha Krishnan HR consultant Chennai and P. Lakshmanan, TQM consultant, Chennai. A case study contest, to highlight the problems and efforts made on improving productivity was the highlight of the competitions, which included essay and slogan writing and poster drawing.
Professor, N. Panchanatham, Registrar, Annamalai University, Chidambaram in his address insisted on regular analysis to develop efficiency and quality that would lead to higher productivity. He also stated that, on day to day, every employee of the organisation needs to be sensitised about the resources and activities of the organisation.
S. Boopathy, Director (Planning &Projects) the president of the Valedictory, urged all employees to act as industrial engineers at the individual level to save the resources of the organisation, and to ensure the productivity by achieving output against given parameters.
