The general house of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) on Friday selected Manjit Singh G.K. as it president for the second continuous term.
Besides, Manjinder Singh Sirsa was also elected for the second term as general secretary of the gurdwara committee.
“Forty-five out of 49 members of the general house voted in favour of Manjit Singh G.K. and only four voted for Bibi Daljit Kaur Khalsa, a candidate fielded by Paramjit Singh Sarna group for the post of gurdwara committee president. Five of eight members in the Sarna faction opposed Sarna and voted in favour of Manjit Singh G.K., which was an embarrassment for the group,” an official said.
For the first time after 1979, the elections of the office bearers were held within the scheduled time of two years.
Four office bearers and ten members of the executive board were elected unopposed.
M.P.S. Chadha was elected as senior vice-president, Satpal Singh as vice-president and Amarjeet Singh Pappu as joint secretary. Ten members elected on the executive board by the general house include Gurbachan Singh Cheema, Gurvinder Pal Singh, Hardev Singh Dhanoa, Jeet Singh, Kulmohan Singh, Manmohan Singh, Paramjeet Singh Chandok, Rawail Singh, Kuldeep Singh Sahni and Jatinder Singh Sahni.
