The Delhi Development Authority on Friday inched closer to setting up the ‘East Delhi Hub’ project at Karkardooma. It signed an MoU with the National Buildings Construction Corporation Ltd. on Friday.

The MoU was signed between DDA Vice-Chairman Balvinder Kumar and NBCC Chairman and Managing Director A.K. Mittal in the presence of Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung.

The project will be developed on the lines of of Gurgaon’s cyber hub.

The NBCC will construct an 80-storey tower, with 4,800 housing units spread over 30 acres. As per the MoU, the NBCC will manage the project on behalf of the DDA. A joint committee of both the agencies will monitor the project, the DDA said.

A feasible financial model will be worked out, informed a DDA official.

The East Delhi Hub is part of the DDA’s transit-oriented development pilot project at Karkardooma.

The hub will come up next to two Metro stations, a regional railway station, Anand Vihar railway station, Anand Vihar ISBT, DTC bus terminal, and residential colonies such as Anand Vihar.

In December 2014, the DDA had approved the project aiming to promote access to all amenities on foot, thereby decongesting city roads.

This Karkardooma project will facilitate complete ease of access to the transit facility, thereby, encouraging people to walk and use public transport over personal modes of transport.

The DDA said the project will be a city-level magnet incorporating technology and have world-class plazas, public space, commercial areas, offices spaces, residential areas, and restaurants.

The hub will have a five-acre community park in addition to several neighbourhood parks.
