The declaration of Anbumani Ramadoss as the Chief Ministerial candidate by the Pattali Makkal Katchi founder S. Ramadoss for the front to be formed under the leadership of PMK at the Salem conference recently has raised the hopes of the formation of a good government under the leadership of Dr. Anbumani after the 2016 Assembly elections, according to PMK president G.K. Mani.

Talking to newspersons here on Thursday, Mr. Mani said that the declaration made by Dr. Ramadoss has elicited a good response among the people, including the youth and women in the light of the track record of Dr. Anbumani as the Union Health Minister in the 2004-2009 United Progressive Alliance regime. As then Minister he implemented several welfare schemes such as the National Rural Health Mission and the 108 Ambulance Scheme. The people believe that Dr. Anbumani will perform well as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and implement several development schemes for the State if the PMK were to come to power in 2016.

Mr. Mani said that the gifting of a pen by Dr. Ramadoss to Dr. Anbumani at the Salem conference with the direction that the latter should use it to sign the first order of the government for the abolition of the Indian Made Foreign Liquor shops if the ‘PMK-led front’ were to be elected to power in the 2016 elections has raised hopes among the women who constitute 50 per cent of the voters that if a government is formed under his leadership.

To a question, Mr. Mani said that the PMK expected all parties except the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam to join the front to be formed under the leadership of PMK for the 2016 elections.
