Prisoners clean GH campus

After government staff, students and volunteers, it was time for prisoners to do their bit for a cleaner surrounding.

Forty-one life convicts from the Vellore Central Prison for Men cleaned the campus of the Government Vellore Medical College Hospital on Thursday as part of “Clean India Campaign.”

V. Karuppannan, superintendent of the prison, said the prisoners cleaned the entire campus from morning till about 4 p.m.

Nearly four to five loads of garbage was removed from the premises.

“We are also planning to involve the prisoners in cleaning up bus terminals and railway stations under the Swacch Bharat initiative. We are planning to clean the Katpadi railway station next,” he said. Sithi Athiya Munawara, Dean of GVMCH was present.
