'Spandan': Peep into the scenic beauty of 'landscape'

The five-day inter-faculty youth festival of BHU, ‘Spandan’ commenced on a high note with several fine arts and literary events on Friday. The formal inauguration of the festival will be done on February 28 by Bollywood actor, Anil Kapoor.

VARANASI: The five-day inter-faculty youth festival of BHU, ‘Spandan’ commenced on a high note with several fine arts and literary events on Friday. The formal inauguration of the festival will be done on February 28 by Bollywood actor, Anil Kapoor.
First day of the annualcultural festival witnessed several events like on-spot photography, on-spot painting, collage making.
The events were held at the exhibition hall of the faculty of visual arts. A number of students participated in Hindi, English and Sanskrit debates held in different halls and auditoriums. Preliminary rounds of quiz were also held on the occasion.
Students were engrossed in collage making. Sujata, a student of BHU said, “We were given two themes for collage making; Festival or Landscape. I have prepared a collage on festival theme titled ‘Holi Hai’.”
Brijesh Kumar, a student of faculty of commerce said, “I have made a collage showcasing the scenic beauty under the theme ‘landscape’.”
It may be noted that as 40 competitions under various categories of literature, cultural, fine arts, dramatics and other events will be organised during the fest. A committee comprising of directors of institutes, dean of faculties, principal of Mahila Mahavidyalaya (MMV) and others have also been formed to convene the events to be held during the festival. Apart from this, 14 sub-committees and 7 other sub-committees have also been formed.
The five-day fest will conclude with prize distribution ceremony on March 3. Prominent Bharatnatyam danseuse, Padamshree Geeta Chandran will be the chief guest on the occasion.
