ANNAPOLIS JUNCTION, Md. - U.S. Fleet Cyber Command/U.S. 10th Fleet's (FCC/C10F) Heritage Committee held a luncheon to celebrate African-American History Month Feb. 26 at the National Business Park in Annapolis Junction, Maryland.

The ceremony was designed to honor the contributions African-Americans have made throughout the history of the U.S. Navy and the nation.

“Our goal is to bring people together and help boost morale,” said Yeoman 1st Class (IDW/SW) Charlene Peay. “As a committee, I feel we did a good job on the event and helped raise awareness of the African-American culture.”

FCC/C10F's Heritage Committee promotes diversity by hosting various events throughout the year to honor the theme of the month.

“I think it is a great thing that we as a command take time to celebrate our diversity,” said FCC/C10F Command Master Chief (IDW/SW) Jon Taylor. “These events allow us to honor and share our respective cultures with our shipmates.”

“Everyone should take pride in their culture,” said Taylor. “It goes a long way to help us better understand one another and grow as an organization.”

African-American History Month was originally established in 1926 by Dr. Carter G. Woodson.
