Former Colorado police chief says cops mishandled JonBenet Ramsey investigation

Former Boulder Colorado Police Chief Mark Beckner thinks that the investigation into the infamous JonBenet Ramsey case should have been handled differently.

The former Police Chief recently took part in a Reddit "Ask Me Almost Anything" forum, which he didn't know was public, and was shockingly candid about the 1996 investigation into the disappearance and murder of 6 year old pageant star JonBenet Ramsey.

Beckner, who joined the case 9 months in, said he was brought on to "get the investigation back on course".

During the AMAA Beckner admitted to police missteps, saying things like: "the crime scene was not handled properly and this later affected the investigation," "some evidence was compromised" and "we also did a poor job of protecting the crime scene."

On the subject of JonBenet's parents John and Patsy, who many suspected to be the culprits of the heinous crime, Beckner said: "We also should have separated John and Patsy and gotten full statements from them that day. Letting them go was a big mistake, as they soon lawyered up and we did not get to formally interview them again until May of 1997, five months after their daughter was murdered"

Beckner's Reddit forum was later deleted but the Denver Post retained a copy of transcript. Before the contents were wiped from the site Beckner told the Daily Camera he had no idea it was public. "I didn't know it was an open-architecture type thing, or I wouldn't have done it. It was a misunderstanding and naivete on my part," he said.

The former police chief's candor resulting from the 'misunderstanding' opened up speculation into a nearly 20 year old unsolved murder case that is gripping the public a second time around. The AMAA received nearly 600 comments and has since gone viral.
