The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Puducherry unit on Monday raised serious allegations about irregularities in waste disposal in the municipal areas.

The unit general secretary V.Saminathan said the Chief Minister N. Rangasamy should initiate action against irregularities in disposal of waste.

The BJP said the government should install cameras in dumping yard to monitor the vehicles and record the movement of vehicles in the computers.

Mr.Saminathan said in Puducherry and Oulgaret Municipal limits, the municipal authorities have been engaging contractors to remove municipal solid waste of 800 ton per day through tractors and lorries.

But, the contractors have not been doing their jobs properly. Several contractors who have strong political connections, either with connivance of some officials or intimidating other officials, have been drawing money Rs.2,500 per vehicle without clearing waste and operating vehicles.

“The government is losing several crores of rupees daily due to such irregularities every month. Besides siphoning off public money by influential contractors, the irregularity pave the way for health hazard by not removing municipal waste,” said the BJP leader.

Mr.Saminathan also said so municipal officers should monitor vehicles clearing municipal solid waste and should keep complaint boxes in every street in order to ensure vehicles’ arrival into the respective area every day. They should cancel the services of erring contractors.

Appreciating efforts of the officials for seizing vehicles that indulged irregularities two days ago, he said more sincere officers should be deployed in the services of the municipality.
