All Crafts Mela on in Salem

A sales target of Rs. 10 lakh has been fixed

Handicrafts, the price of which ranges between Rs. 50 and Rs. 2 lakh, have been on display at the All Crafts Mela organsied by the Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited at the Rotary Hall here in the city.

S. Soundappan, Mayor, declared the exhibition open on Wednesday.

The Poompuhar has fixed a sales target of Rs. 10 lakh through this exhibition. The mela will go on till March 8.

On display

Panchaloha idols; sandalwood handicrafts; sandalwood pieces; white wood handicrafts; Thanjavur paintings, brass handicrafts, silk and welvet paintings; traditional lamps and navarathna garlands procured from different parts of the country have been displayed at the mela.

Besides, Kashmir shawls, world famous Thanjavur art plates, Sungadi saris, decorated bed sheets and bed spreads of North Indian States have also been displayed.

N. Xavier, manager of Poompuhar Showroom, said that a discount of 10 per cent was being offered on all the handicrafts items at the fair.

As the exhibition has been brought up with the objective of providing marketing avenue to the traditional craftsmen of the country for augmenting their revenue, the showroom manager called upon people to patronise the same.
