Police arrested a B. Tech graduate, S. Venkata Ramana alias doctor Kalyan Varma, who allegedly stole posh cars from various districts.

The accused was wanted in 13 cases and 14 Non-Bailable Warrants (NBW) were pending against him, City Police Commissioner A.B. Venkateswara Rao told the media. The accused used to follow the advertisements published in papers on sale of cars, visit the owner’s houses, take vehicles on the pretext of test drive and escape from the place.

He would move in stolen cars, deceive traders, industrialists and doctors in the name of selling cars, and disappear after taking some amount from them. The accused, who completed engineering from JNTU-Kakinada, duped unemployed youth by establishing fake software companies and was convicted earlier, said the commissioner.

Police busted a seven-member fake gold selling gang, including a woman, when the members were trying to sell the fake gold in the city. In another case, police rounded up two robbers who allegedly committed thefts in various districts.
