Co-optex scheme launched in Ooty

A month-long ‘Buy Two and Get One Free’ scheme was launched at the Co-optex outlet here on Thursday by The Nilgiris Collector P.Sankar.

Chairman, Co-optex, K.V.Manoharan told media persons that the objective was to prevent accumulation of stock in the godowns and protect the interests of about 1.61 lakh weavers belonging to 1,300 cooperative societies.

Target

Stating that the target for the Co-optex showrooms in the State for the current fiscal was Rs. 350 crore, he added that already the achievement was over Rs. 300 crore.

Pointing out that focus now was on value addition, he said that the Co-optex had started manufacturing saris with organic dyes.

The Co-optex, which was running on a loss for several years, had earned a profit of Rs. 23 crore last year.

Udhagamandalam Municipal Council chairperson K.Sathyabama was also present.
