Student on tour delivers baby in toilet

A student of a private college at Attur in Salem district delivered a baby in the toilet of a fuel station, near the Walayar check post, in Coimbatore district early on Thursday. The girl child, however, died before being taken to a hospital.

The unmarried girl of Yethapur was a III B.Sc. Computer Science in a private college for girls. She was among the 260 students who were on a four day-tour to Kerala.

The police said that She complained of stomach pain, and the bus stopped at a fuel station at Navakkarai, near Walayar, around 2.30am.

Inspector B. Sivakumar who conducted a preliminary inquiry told The Hindu that her friends who waited in the bus were shocked to hear her loud cry and rushed to the spot to see the girl in a pool of blood, and a motionless baby near her. The mother and child were rushed to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital in an ambulance, where the baby was declared brought dead, he said.

The student is admitted to the CMCH. The girl’s parents reportedly told the police that they were convinced that their daughter had developed a cyst, after a doctor to whom they took her a few weeks ago told the same. Inquiry revealed that she was in love with a youth of the village, who is working as an assistant in a college.
