DMK president M. Karunanidhi on Thursday criticised RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat for his remarks on Mother Teresa and said the “uncivilised comment” had brought the BJP-led government at the Centre unnecessary trouble.

In a statement, Mr. Karunanidhi recalled Mr. Bhagwat’s recent remark that Mother Teresa helped people with an intention to convert them to Christianity and said such an uncivilised remark against an acclaimed person who was no more has brought disrepute to the BJP government. Hailing Mother Teresa’s service to the poor, he noted that this earned her several awards.
