Gold worth Rs.35 lakh seized from bus passengers

The police on Thursday seized 1.3 kg of gold worth around Rs.35 lakh from two bus passengers at Adhur in the district.

Based on a tip-off, an eight-member team led by Kasaragod Dy.SP. T.P. Ranjith and Adhur Circle Inspector A. Satheesh Kumar intercepted a KSRTC bus plying on the Sullia-Kasaragod route, near Adhur, around 2.30 p.m. and recovered the gold concealed in four suitcases from two passengers.

The special squadtook Abdulla Kunhi, 22, resident of Koliyadukkam; and Muhammed Rasheed Rahman, 26, hailing from Melparamba in the district, into custody, Superintendent of Police A. Srinivas told The Hindu .

On interrogation, the duo admitted that they flew to Bangaluru from the Gulf and arrived here by road. The police will hand over the duo either to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence or Customs officials, he said.
